Once found roaming throughout
Africa and much of Asia, today the lion can
only be found in a few scattered areas of Africa and the Gir
forest of India. There are estimated to be no more than 200
Asian lions surviving in the wild. The African
lion is less rare but still threatened.
The lion symbolizes
strength, power, beauty and grace. Unfortunately, these qualities
made it the ultimate kill for many hunters and their numbers
dropped by an estimated 75%. Through protective legislation,
hunting is being controlled but the lion faces new threats
associated with the loss of its habitat.
If you adopt a lion we can help to protect
these wonderful animals.
